10.22-23.2022_Douglas Lake Classic

Douglas Lake Panaramic

Crum & Redmond Bust Big Ones on Douglas for Classic Crown

October 22-23, 2022-Jefferson County, TN: The 2-day Morristown Marine Team Trail Classic started off with a chilly bang Saturday morning, but the day-and the fishing-would heat up quickly. 175 teams qualified for the 2022 version of the MMTT Classic Weekend, and 149 of those teams showed up to compete on Day 1. The fishing, while tough, was consistent with 131 of those teams weighing at least one fish on Day 1 and a leading weight of 15.44 lbs by Eddie and Casey Baker. On the morning of Day 2, we blasted off 118 boats and weighed 72 bags for Day 2. A grand total of 891 fish hit the scales for a total weekend weight of 1,668.98 lbs. We couldn’t have ordered better weather with highs in the 70’s and overnight lows in the upper 40’s. We certainly appreciate everyone fishing with us all season long and coming out for the 2-day Classic. Our total payout for the weekend was $65,000.00 across 30 places and all contingency programs.

The team of Jimmy Crum and Steve Redmond took home the Championship for 2022 with a 2-day total weight of 30.81 lbs. Jimmy and Steve anchored both day’s bags with a 5+ lb fish, one largemouth at 5.10 lbs and the other a smallmouth at 5.09 lbs, which got them the Citizens Bank Big Smallmouth for the tournament. Jimmy and Steve told us they caught their fish on a variety of baits including a crankbait and a shakeyhead. Jimmy and Steve took home a couple of paychecks, including 1st place for $30,000.00, Highest Finishing Skeeter for $3,000.00, Big Smallmouth for $745.00, and 1st Humminbird/MinnKota for $250.00, for a total payday of $33,995.00!! Congrats Jimmy & Steve on a great weekend of fishing and wearing the 2022 MMTT Championship Crown!

Right on their heels was the team of Brad Padgett & Daniel Padgett with a 2-day total of 27.46 lbs. Brad and Daniel also found a good largemouth, anchoring their Day 2 bag with a 5.10 lb green fish of their own. The Padgett boys took home a payday worth $5,150.00 which included 2nd place overall for $5,000.00 and 2nd Highest Finishing Humminbird/MinnKota for $150.00. Congrats guys! That was a great weekend!

3rd place belongs to Brian Harvey & Mark Mauldin. Brian & Mark had a 2-day total weight of 25.10 lbs and received a check for $3,000.00 for their 3rd place efforts. Congrats guys!

4th place went to Jeremy Gordon and Phillip Gordon with a 2-day total weight of 24.84 lbs. Jeremy & Phillip cashed checks for 4th place($2,000), 2nd Highest Finishing Skeeter($1,500), 1st Morristown Marine New Bucks($1,000), and for a total payday of $4,500.00. Way to go, Jeremy & Phillip!

Rounding out the top 5 was the team of Eddie Baker and Casey Baker. This father-son team was our Day 1 Leader, but just couldn’t hold on for the win. The Baker bots totaled 24.58 lbs over 2 days and took home $2,000.00 for 5th place and 3rd Highest Finishing Skeeter. Good job guys!

Morristown Marine would like to give a special thanks to The Carson-Newman Fishing Team for assisting us with parking both mornings. It’s not a glamorous job, but these guys did great managing the flow of traffic in a very constricted space. Thank you guys and I appreciate the patience and understanding from our anglers as these young men managed to get all our available parking filled to capacity.

Also, we’d like to thank Skeeter, Yamaha, Humminbird, MinnKota, Jefferson County, Gray Fox Insurance, Old Stage Printing, Volunteer Trenching, Jimmy Taylor Plumbing, Lake View Dock, Citizens Bank, Cumberland Gap Spring Water, Jerry’s Bait Shop, Value RX Pharmacy, Visit Morristown, Campbell County, and The Roane Alliance/City of Rockwood for sponsoring the 2022 Morristown Marine Team Trail. If not for the help of these sponsors, this tournament trail would not exist.

We want to thank our staff and crew for another year of hard work, long hours and a lot of blood, sweat and tears! Most people don’t realize the behind-the-scenes work that goes on to create and operate a trail of this size. Lastly, we want to thank you, the anglers, for coming out each and every tournament to fish with us. There are a number of tournament trails these days and we sincerely appreciate you choosing to fish with us. 2022 was a great season and we are already looking forward to the start of the 2023 Morristown Marine Team Trail on Cherokee Lake March 4th, 2023.
